Everything happening in the WIRED world of culture is covered in The Monitor.

There are predictions. The film is expected to bring in between $150 million and $175 million in the US and Canada this weekend. It's the kind of money that's reserved for Star Wars. The movie's predecessor is the highest-grossing movie of all time, but people forget that it only made 77 million dollars in its opening weekend, and it wasn't thought of as a sure thing. The repeat viewers turned it into a powerhouse. James Cameron and anyone rooting for the survival of theaters are hoping that the movie will beat expectations again.

The movie is out now and will hit theaters under different circumstances. The year 2009, despite the recession, still felt like a hopeful one, and all of the technical 3D marvels thatAvatar pulled off still felt like, well, marvels. The movie's story was pretty boring and audiences were too busy to notice. Two years into the Covid-19 epidemic, audiences may be leery of being immersed in a theater for more than 3 hours.

Maybe evenCameron knows this. The sequel to The Way of Water has received a lot of attention. The characters in the first movie feel like cutouts, and that is one of the knocks against it. It seems as if the criticism has been taken to heart by the man. The film's technical achievements were not talked about in the promotion cycle.

Will that be enough to get people to go to the theater? There is a feeling that The Way of Water is going to be a litmus test for a certain kind of blow-the-doors movie. The first film ended in that way. According to The New York Times Magazine, the most pressing question raised by the film is who asked for it. It took 36 years for Top Gun to leave a longer- lasting cultural footprint. On one side of the spectrum are fans who still say, "I feel the need, the need for speed", while on the other side of the spectrum are fans who still say, "Do you remember anything at all about Avatar?"

It is possible that all of this gets crossed out by another maxim. It might not matter if few people care about the movie. The original film reclaimed the top spot as the highest-grossing film of all time when it was rereleased in China in 2021. Audiences are more comfortable going to the theater now that the film is out. Maybe they need to see the way by CAMERON.
