Rio de Janeiro

New Year's Eve is life-affirming with panoramic views and a seductive samba beat. Two million people flock to the beach each year for music, swimming, football, barbecues and a massive fireworks display, and the celebrations here are comparable to the city's famous Carnival. Ipanema and Flamengo are small beaches that are worth considering. If you want to schedule dinner, you need to book early. Bip Bip has live music and Pavo Azul has a cocktail made from coconut cream, Condensed Milk and Cachaa.

Rome

In Rome, fireworks displays against the backdrop of some of the most beautiful buildings in the world are part of the New Year celebrations. The historic square is home to concerts, music and entertainment for all ages. You can watch the grand boulevard transform into a lively street party when Via dei Fori Imperiali starts playing music at 9:30pm. The Piazza del Popolo is the location of the New Year's Day parade.

New York City

One of the most popular NYE gatherings in the world is in Times Square. On New Year's Eve, people wait in the cold for live performances and a midnight performance of "New York, New York." There are other NYE party destinations in New York including a river cruise. New York is a great place to party. The Empire State Building and an amusement park can be seen from Magic Hour. Brooklyn's Prospect Park has its own midnight fireworks if you want to avoid the craziness of Manhattan.

Tokyo

The ringing of the bell in a temple is an alternative to partying on New Year's Eve in Tokyo. A monk rings the temple bell at midnight to correspond to the number of worldly desires seen by Japanese Buddhism. The first shrine of the New Year is located in the ancient temple of Zj-ji and is visited by both locals and tourists. Laser and light shows can be seen across Tokyo Bay, if you prefer more of a party vibe. There are a lot of NYE events in the Roppongi area.

Cape Town 

New Year's Eve is a great time to visit Cape Town because it is coming into summer. New Year's Eve is exciting in this beautiful destination. Get Lucky Summer is a three-day music festival in South Africa. There is a chance to take a cruise around the harbor to see the sunset. You can take a cable car to the top of Table Mountain for a great view of the fireworks.

Sydney

There is a lot of attention on New Year's Eve in Australia. You can drink alcohol in the city on the day of the fireworks, but be sure to check online to see when they are likely to fill up, and if you can watch the fireworks. The Royal Botanic Garden and the Harbour National Park are both great places to celebrate the new year. There are NYE boat parties on the harbor and a ’70s House Party at the Opera House. All ages can attend free events at the harbour.

Bangkok 

The Thai capital is known for its high-octane nightlife. The open-air night market Asiatique is a popular NYE destination, with restaurants offering special menus for the evening. The Lebua hotel at State Tower is home to four altitude-defying restaurants and bars, including the world's highest outdoor bar. If you want to have a romantic evening, take a river cruise and feast on Thai food.

Dubai

The city knows how to host a party. It is possible to see the fireworks display across the entire country. The Kite Beach is a great place to bring a picnic. A concert by an international superstar, free-flowing champagne, cooking stations and a massive fireworks display can be found at one of the glamorous Galas at the Atlantis. There is a silent rave and bubbles at the ZeroGravity party.

Québec City

Québec City is warm on New Year's Eve because of heated terraces and outdoor fireplaces. A mixture of red wine, hard liquor and maple syrup can be used in a cocktail. The main NYE party is at Grande Allée, with live bands, dancing in the streets, Ferris wheels and fireworks, and Place de l'Assemblée-Nationale is where you'll find a big open air dance floor. You can sample some of Québec's famous cuisine at Auberge SaintAntoine's Chez Muffy restaurant. You can toboggan at the famous Terrasse Dufferin slides or skate under the stars on the ice rink at Place d'Youville before that.

Las Vegas

The Las Vegas Strip becomes party central on New Year's Eve when it closes to traffic at 6 pm and visitors take to the streets for the world's biggest block party. The casino roofs are lit up with fireworks. The Freemont St party downtown has a music stage with aerialists and dancers, as well as bands and fireworks. The High Roller, the world's tallest observation wheel, is a great way to see Las Vegas in 2023.
