Poland is looking for answers from Ukraine after a gift to a top Polish police commander exploded.

The Polish Interior Ministry said in a statement that Jarosaw Szymczyk, the chief of Poland's police, was taken to a hospital for observation after the explosion.

An explosion took place in a room next to the police commander-in-chief's office yesterday.

The Commandant received one of the presents that exploded while he was in Ukraine.

The gift came from an official of the Ukrainian Police and Emergency Situations.

The ministry said that a civilian employee at the Polish headquarters did not need to go to the hospital.

A case was opened with the prosecutor's office after the ministry asked for an explanation.

A month ago, two people in Poland were killed by a missile strike. NATO General Secretary Jens Stoltenberg said Russia was still to blame for the deaths because it launched the first attack.

Poland's Interior Ministry and Ukraine's Foreign Ministry did not reply immediately.
