Brock Purdy's double pump-fake leads to 49ers TD (0:36)

Brock Purdy found Georg Kittle in the middle of the field for the 49ers' touchdown. It was 0: 36.

The San Francisco 49ers secured their place in the playoffs with a 21-13 victory over Seattle. Brock Purdy, the third starting quarterback for the Niners this season, led the team to a road win over a division rival four days after his first career start.

Christian McCaffrey rushed for a second touchdown after a fumbled ball. Geno Smith was held out of the end zone until the final minutes of the game.

The Niners will continue to fight for seeding in the playoffs, but the Seahawks' playoff chances took a huge hit after the game. The Kansas City Chiefs and New York Jets are coming to town in the next two weeks.

The 49ers won the division for the second year in a row.

The fun starts now.

The Niners have had a hard time with the Seahawks at Lumen Field. The Niners defeated their most problematic opponent with relative ease Thursday night, extending their winning streak to seven games.

With a 10-4 record and a perfect record in theNFC West, the Niners can drop no lower than the third seed in the playoffs.

It's unlikely that the Niners will catch the Eagles for the top spot. If the Niners finish with the same record as the Vikings, they would have a chance to win the division.

The final three weeks of the season could be used to manage the workload of some important players. He probably won't unless the No. 2 seed is playing. It is possible for Purdy to use as many snaps as possible before his first playoff journey.

"There's absolutely no question about it," he said. This isn't our final goal, that's for sure. I'm very proud of our team and what they achieved. Our goal is to get into the tournament and we accomplished that today, but now it's all about setting that up to be the best situation we can and hopefully get some of our guys back as well.

The Niners will have a mini bye before their Christmas Eve clash with the Washington Commanders and will be able to celebrate another division title in Seattle.

It would have been difficult to tell from his performance against the Seahawks if he was hurt or not. Purdy was mostly poised and on target with some easy looks for George Kittle.

He was 17-of-26 for 217 yards with two scores and no turnovers for a passer rating of 118.0. He joined Scott Bull as the only rookies to win their first two starts in franchise history.

Kittle has remained an important part of the Niners' offense, but that hasn't been seen as often in the pass game as in the past. He had four catches for 93 yards and scored two times. The Niners need Kittle to produce more if Samuel is out with a knee injury. It was a step in the right direction.

The Niners controlled the game for most of the first half but struggled to extend their lead, leaving the door open for Seattle to take the lead just before halftime. With the Seahawks moving the ball late in the second quarter, running back Travis Homer caught a short pass and tried to find room in the open field before he was hit by defensive backs. Dre Greenlaw pounced on the ball and wrested it away. San Francisco's Charvarius Ward recovered the ball and ran 40 yards to the Seattle's 6-yard line, where he scored two plays later to put the game out of reach.

The next game is against Commanders. There was an event on December 24th.

Seattle Seahawks

In the second week of the season, the 49ers held the Seahawks to no points in Santa Clara.

It was obvious in recent weeks as the 49ers widened their lead in theNFC West by blowing out one opponent after another while the Seahawks lost three of four.

It was obvious on Thursday night at Lumen Field that the gap between the Seahawks and the division rival they used to own has grown. Facing a third-string quarterback who didn't have his best offensive weapon in Samuel, the 49ers were able to control the game from start to finish.

The team is on the up. They have a strong young core and a boat load of draft capital, which is likely to be a top-five pick. They have the same number of wins as the New York Giants and Commanders and are still in the running for the playoffs.

They were reminded how far they'll have to go to catch up to the 49ers. While they have a mini bye to lick their wounds, it won't get any easier with a game against the 10-3 Chiefs on Christmas Eve, especially with wide receiver Tyler Lockett expected to miss time after breaking a bone in his hand.

Smith was so-so, which was all that was expected of him. When the Seahawks fell behind early, they were forced to throw against a loaded pass rush. Smith threw a late touchdown pass to Noah Fant. The pick-six was nullified by a roughing penalty.

The pivot play was late in the second quarter, when the Seahawks were trailing 3-7, and safety Quandre Diggs was in perfect position to pick off a pass. The punt that put the Seahawks at their own 19-yard line was caused by the ball bouncing off the hand of Diggs. An easy touchdown was set up by a 49ers recovery and return to the 6-yard line. A Pro Bowl selection in each of the past two seasons, but has not played this season.

The Seahawks have allowed at least 150 rushing yards in each of their last five games, which is the worst way in which their defense has reverted to its early season form. The 49ers tried 170 times. Jordan Mason broke free for a 55 yard gain on the first play of the fourth quarter, putting the game out of reach. He had a total of108 yards on 26 tries. Bryan Mone, the replacement for Al Woods in Seattle's run defense, tore his knee in the first quarter.

The next game is at the Kansas City Chiefs. There was an event on December 24th.
