There is a collection of digital trading cards depicting Donald Trump in various guises.

"These limited edition cards feature amazing art of my life and career!" Mr. Trump said.

The billionaire launched his third campaign last month.

He said he would make a big announcement.

He had not named a running mate for his campaign.

The promotional video was posted on Truth Social.

The clip featured an animated version of the former president in front of the Trump Tower in New York, who ripped his shirt to reveal a superhero costume with the letter T on it.

Mr Trump said on Truth Social that the NFTs were like a baseball card but more exciting.

The cards would be a great Christmas gift, he said.

Buyers will be entered into a sweepstake and have the chance of winning prizes such as a dinner with Mr Trump.

Critics have warned about the risks in the market for NFTs.

The "one-of-a-kind" assets in the digital world can be bought and sold in the same way as any other piece of property.

They can be thought of as certificates of ownership.

High-profile Republicans also spoke out against the announcement.

Steve Bannon, a right-wing media commentator and former chief strategist for Mr Trump, said that he couldn't do this anymore.

He said anyone involved in the project was going to be fired.

In an apparent jibe at Mr Trump, US President Joe Biden said that he had some major announcements the last couple of weeks as well.

He signed a marriage protection bill.

I had some MAJOR ANNOUNCEMENTS the last couple of weeks, too…✔️ Inflation’s easing✔️ I just signed the Respect for Marriage Act✔️ We brought Brittney Griner home✔️ Gas prices are lower than a year ago
