The new hybrid engines will be slower than the new Acela trains, which will reach speeds of 160 miles an hour. Since they'll be able to traverse the entire corridor without having to switch engines, they'll save time on long journeys.
The time it takes to change engines will be cut in half with the new eco-friendly hybrid engines.
There is a $28 million upgrade on the trains.
The Adirondack, Carolinian, Downeaster, Empire Service, Ethan Allen Express, Keystone Service, Maple Leaf, New Haven/ Springfield Service, Northeast Regional, Palmetto, Pennsylvanian, Vermonter and Virginia services are some of the new regional train routes.
The new fleet of trains will be manufactured by California-basedSiemens Mobility. The entire fleet is projected to be fully online by 2031.
