Brandon Crawford is arguably the greatest in franchise history, but the arrival of Carlos Correa presents a different challenge for the 35-year old.

According to The Athletic's Andrew Baggarly, Crawford will be moving to another position this off-season and the Giants will have Carlos Correa as their everyday infielder.

Crawford received a call from Zaidi and Kapler less than 15 minutes after news broke of the signing. There was no discussion of the four-time Gold Glove winner changing positions.

Crawford took the news in stride and sent a text to Baggarly.

Our team got a lot better with the signing of Carlos. It's exciting to get a player of his caliber in San Francisco, he's been one of the better players in the league for a long time. I've never been faced with a situation like that in professional baseball, but since signing, I've been told that he will stay at short. I will be working my hardest to be the best I can be in order to help us get back to the playoffs.

Baggarly wrote that Crawford "declined to address what his role could be or what position would represent the easiest transition, saying he has been given a rough outline but discussions are still in."

He has been with the Giants for 12 years. He helped the San Francisco Giants win two World Series titles. His 1,525 games at the position are the fifth most in the history of the game.

Baggarly said that there's a chance that Crawford will retire next winter.

The left-handed hitter is coming off a down year in which he hit.231 with nine homers and 52RBI. He hopes to return to the form that saw him hit.300 with 24 homers and 90 runs in the year 2021.
