Donald Trump teased a "major announcement" just weeks after declaring a third presidential run. He is selling digital trading cards with depictions of his head atop cartoon super-hero figures in a market that is already sagging.

The Donald Trump Digital Trading Card collection can be collected like a baseball card, according to Trump. A golf outing with the former Republican president is one of the prizes that will be won by people who purchase them.

The company that is selling the digital cards is not owned, managed or controlled by Trump or his company, according to the website. According to the website, Trump gets paid for using his name and likeness.

The market for NFTs has fallen sharply in recent months along with the rest of the crypto universe which has suffered a number of spectacular blowups. According to Dune, the monthly trading volume on the world's biggest NFT marketplace, OpenSea, was the lowest in over a year.

The price of some of the most popular NFT collections has dropped. The lowest price someone would pay for an NFT from the collection has fallen since April.

The release of the first NFT was joined by the wife of the president.

Trump had teased the announcement with a post on his Truth Social platform on Wednesday depicting himself as a Superman-like character standing in front of Trump Tower with lasers shooting from his eyes. Laser eyes are a bullish signal and that picture is now a digital card.

The move came a month after Trump said he would run for president in 2020. It was thought that the major announcement would be similar to Trump's run for House speaker or his return to social media.

Trump's comeback run has been marked by one downturn after another, including being blamed for a disappointing Republican midterm showing, the growing popularity in the GOP, and the public dinner he held with two well known antisemites.

Over the last couple of weeks, President Joe Biden had had some "MAJOR ANNOUNCEMENTS," including signing the Respect for Marriage Act and securing the release of basketball starBrittney Griner from a Russian prison.

Shortly after his NFT announcement, Trump posted a video on his Truth Social site to outline what he described as a platform to "reclaim" the right of free speech should he become president.
