NASA has put together a 25-minute highlight reel that shows the top moments of the Artemis 1 mission.
On November 16, 2022, the SLS rocket lifted off from Kennedy Space Center in Florida and sent the capsule to test out in deep space. Before flying astronauts on Artemis II, this will be done by shaking down the ground systems and teams.
There were two lunar flybys that came within 80 miles of the lunar surface. During the mission, the plane traveled over 270,000 miles from Earth. During its 25.5-day circumlunar flight, the spaceship traveled more than two million km and flew past the Moon.
With cameras mounted on the European Service Module, the mission sent back some images that show our tiny fragile world along with the Moon in the foreground.
The man returned to Earth on December 11th. The temperature during re-entry was about 2,300 degrees Celsius. The parachute-assisted splashdown took about 20 minutes to complete.
The astronauts will travel on the same path. The launch of that mission will likely be pushed back to later in the year due to several delays.
