Drew Brees Hired as Purdue Interim Assistant Coach Before Citrus Bowl

Drew is going back to his alma mater as an assistant coach.

The school said that he will work with players and recruit.

Over the next few weeks, I am excited to work with our team as we prepare for theCitrus Bowl. I see it as an opportunity to coach and mentor this group of young men, but also represent all the former Boilermakers that care about our program. It's also preparation for the future of the football program. The energy, passion and detail that Coach Walters will bring to our program is something I really like. There is no better time to be a boilermaker.

As the football team transitions to a new head coach, Drew wanted to help.

The University of Louisville has a similar position to that of the former head coach of the Boilermakers. He was a football player at the school from 1989 to 1993. From 2003 to 2008 he was an assistant coach for the Cards.

There was an inconsistent six-season run by the Boilermakers. They played in the Big Ten Championship Game for the first time this year.

The brother of Jeff's boss will be the interim head coach for the bowl.

On Tuesday, he was named as the new replacement. He worked at the University of Illinois as a defensive coach.

One of the best football players in Boilermaker history was the starting quarterback in 1998. He is the all-time leader in passing yards, completions and touchdown passes.

He led the Boilermakers to a share of the Big Ten title and an appearance in the Rose Bowl.

For the first time in a decade, the Boilermakers will have nine wins in a back-to-back season.
