It has been difficult to recover a hacked account, according to a report from a year ago. A report from last year showed how people who have had their accounts overtaken have turned to other people for help. In both cases, users said that the photo sharing site was slow to reply.

In order to regain control of their account, a user may be asked their friends to vouch for them. Everyone can now use the feature, which allows users locked out of their account to choose two friends to help verify their identity.

The company is working on ways to prevent account hacking before it happens.

Meta is starting to build out a more robust customer service division to help users who get into account and moderation issues. It might seem odd that it has taken so long, especially since Facebook added live chat support a year ago.
