The role of Superman will not be played by Henry Cavill. On Wednesday, the actor posted a text on his social media accounts that said he was leaving.
It's sad news that I just had a meeting with James and Peter. I won't be coming back as Superman. The news isn't easy after being told by the studio to come back in October.
In Man of Steel, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Justice League, and Black Adam's post-credits scene, he plays the big blue Boy Scout.

Prior to the announcement of the new co-chairs and CEOs of DC Studios, it was already known that he would be playing the Man of Steel again. DC Studios replaced DC Films and is in charge of movies, television shows, and animation.
It seems that there is no room for the Man of Steel in the future of DC Studios.
"In the initial stages, our story will be focusing on an earlier part of Superman's life, so the character won't be played by Henry Cavill," he said. We had a great meeting with Henry and we talked about a lot of exciting possibilities to work together in the future.
This isn't good news for the man. Just days after he confirmed his return as Superman, the actor quit his role in The Witcher. He's going to have a lot of time to himself.
The change of the guard is something that can happen. I'm respectful of that. James and Peter have something in common. I wish them and everyone involved with the new universe the best of luck and good fortune.
The casting of Superman isn't the only change that's happening. Last week news broke that Wonder Woman 3 had been canceled, which led to the release of a text message from the director explaining that it wasn't her decision.
We'll just have to keep waiting for more information, even though the movie is not an origin story.
