Kane Williamson steps down as New Zealand captain with Tim Southee named as replacement

Tim Southee has been named as the new Test captain.

The one-day international and Twenty20 sides will be led by the same man.

In his 40 Tests in charge, the batter has won 22 of them.

It has been an honor to captain the Black Caps.

The time is right for me to step down as captain because of the increased workload on and off the field.

New Zealand lost to England and Australia in the T20 World Cup finals.

They beat India at the Ageas Bowl to win the World Test Championship.

Currently ranked number six in the World Test batting rankings, Williamson scored 3,331 runs as captain, the highest of any New Zealand captain.

Southee has played for the Black Caps more times than any other fast bowler.

He will become New Zealand's 31st Test captain when they start their tour of Pakistan on Boxing Day.

The appointment of Southee as Test captain was a huge honor.
