The Department of Justice filed a lawsuit against Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey and state officials for building a wall of shipping containers along the state's border with Mexico.
The Arizona Division of Emergency Management Director is named in the lawsuit.
According to the lawsuit, Arizona has entered and occupied lands owned by the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation.
The lawsuit claims that the state will install additional shipping containers while using crews from the Arizona Department of Emergency and Military affairs.
The lawsuit was filed against officials from the two agencies and the Secretary of Agriculture for opposing the wall.
The state that has violated federal law and the U.S. constitution is being asked to pay damages.
Forbes did not get a response from the office of the governor.
A total of 95 million dollars. The wall is estimated to cost about 3000 containers, according to the AP.
Santa Cruz County Sheriff David Hathway said that the area where the containers are being placed is on federal land. The federal government has said that this is illegal activity.
The containers could be used as affordable housing if they remain, though it is not known if they will be removed before the new Gov.-elect takes office in January.
The release announcing the executive order to fill the gaps along the state's southern border with Mexico was based on the belief that President Joe Biden has not placed enough importance on border security. According to KTAR, the wall became a topic prior to the election, which resulted in a win for Hobbs, who said she would defend it to the Supreme Court. Texas Gov. Greg Abbott decided to bus migrants to Philadelphia and New York City in order to increase border security.
The governor of Arizona is stacking containers on the border at the end of the term.
The border wall was built with shipping containers before the leadership transition.
