Spider-Man Miles Morales and Spider-Gwen Gwen Stacey

The new Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse trailer that dropped yesterday introduced us to a lot of mania and speculation about the sequel to arguably the greatest superhero movie of all time. It introduced a lot of Spider-heroes.

Not every appearance is for a major character, and the bulk of the Spiders we see are original designs made for the movie. There are many references to Spider-Man in movies, TV, and games. We probably saw as many as they did, but here are the people we recognized. Let us know if we missed a single.

Miles Morales, Spider-Man

This is actually a new look, so let's begin with the obvious ones. It is his own thing, unlike the one in Into, which was painted over.

Gwen Stacey, Spider-Gwen

Gwen has a pair of converse trainers that are similar to the ones she wore in the first movie. The trailer afterparty video states that the shoes are a gift from another Spider hero. Daniel Kaluuya plays Spider-PUNK. Later, more on him.

Peter B. Parker, Spider-Man

Peter is wearing a costume under the baby carrier and robe.

Miguel O’Hara, Spider-Man 2099

There is a brief glimpse of this look in previous trailers, but it is nice to see a more detailed look.

Jessica Drew, Spider-Woman

This isn't a direct lift from the comics, but it's more likely a reference to the first Spider-Woman, who appeared in a 1974 issue. The look is heavily inspired by the All-New, All-Different Spider- Woman costume created by Kris Anka. There is a fact that Jessica is pregnant.

Advanced Suit Spider-Man

The look on the left is from Insomniac's Spider-Man PS4 game. The suit was designed by Peter and his mentor.

Spider-Armor MKII

The second iteration of the design was first seen in the comic books by Dan Slott and Marcos Martin.

Spinneret (Mary Jane Parker) and AMP (Anna-May Parker)

Mary-Jane and Anna- May were the wife and daughter of Peter and Mephisto, who didn't have supernaturally erase his marriage from the timelines, as depicted in the Renew Your Vows comic series. They fight alongside Peter as partners in crime-fighting, with MJ taking on the name Spinneret, and Anna-May first taking on the identity of Spiderling.

Maybelle Reilly, the Lady-Spider

The Lady-Spider, Maybelle Reilly, was first introduced in Edge of Spider-Verse, the prequel that gave us Spider-Gwen, and set the stage for the 2015 multiverse event that inspired Into the Spider-Verse. Maybelle has a set of Iron- Spider-esque mechanical arms that she uses to fight villains.

Spider-Cop

This one is intriguing. The badges, belt, uniform, and the fact that he is acting as a traffic director make this feel like a parody of Insomniac's game "Spider-Cop" Peter has a running bit with his NYPD contact, Yuri Watanabe, in which he modifies the tough detective persona that he wears in the game.

In the Spider-Geddon sequel series, Spider-Cop wore a Spider-suit underneath an NYPD uniform, but he also wore sunglasses, had a moustache, and wore a police hat.

Bombastic Bag-Man

This is a clear reference to 1984's Amazing Spider-Man #258, where Peter has to return home after he leaves his symbiote. He has a bag-mask and a kick me sign on his back and he wears a Fantastic Four spare.

Werewolf Spider-Man

This could be a background artist making fun of something. There is a werewolf Spider-Man in the comic books. He and the rest of his lupine reality were in a comic book series. After escaping the reality of the zombies, Ash found himself on Earth 7085, where he was taken over by a similar phenomenon as the zombies in the zombieverse.

Superior Spider-Man

The introduction of Superior Spider-Man was part of a controversial storyline that ended in 2012's Spider-Man #700. In the story, Otto Octavius is dying of cancer and swaps his thoughts with Peter, who is dying of his own disease. Octavius/Peter becomes an uncompromising warrior against injustice when he transforms into the Superior Spider-Man in order to be a better hero than his rival.

Six-Armed Spider-Woman

It's not a thing in the comics, but it appears to be a reference to Peter's first encounter with Morbius the Living Vampire. It's close enough.

Spider-Armor MKI

It's possible that the trailer was the first one, but the first one was the MKI. In web of spider-man # 100, the original Spider-Armor was destroyed. It is an alternate look for Spider-Man in video games.

Spider-Armor MKIII

We are moving onto our third iteration in this trailer. The last resort trump card was designed by Peter and was intended to be used against the Sinister Six.

Retro Gaming Spider-Man

The low-poly rendering aesthetic of this larger-than-life Spider-Man is very similar to Spider-Man's 3D debut in the video.

Spider-Monkey

Spider-Monkey is the webslinging hero of the ape-vengers on Earth-8101, the all-intelligent Simian reality of 2008. He's a spider monkey.

Spider-Man Unlimited

The short lived animated series gave rise to this futuristic costume. Peter went to the Counter-Earth, a planet on the other side of the Sun, in an attempt to save John, the son of J. The suit was designed by Reed Richards.

Mangaverse Spider-Man

This Spider-Man was created by Kaare Andrews in 2002 and was part of the early attempts to monetize the popularity of japanese media. When the Mangaverse was briefly revived in 2006 Peter developed the ability to shoot webs like his usual counterpart.

Pavitr Prabhakar

It was a surprise. We don't see him in the trailer, but we know that he is going to be in Across the Spider-Verse thanks to concept art released by Sony. Pavitr is the Spider-Man of Earth-50101 in the comics.

Spider-Punk

We got our first look at the Spider-Punk after the show. Hobie is the Spider-Man of Earth-138, a world where America was ruled by a fascist version of Norman Osborn, who became president. We knew he was coming because of the merchandise created for the movie.
