If the Yankees want to sign Carlos Rodn, they will have to make a lot of changes to their initial contract proposal.

According to Jon Heyman of the New York Post, there is a "sizable gap" between what the Yankees offered and what Rodn is looking for in a new team.

It's not clear what New York's offer was, but Rodn is believed to be seeking at least seven years and $30 million a season.

Rodn is the top free agent after Carlos Correa agreed to a 13-year, $350 million deal with the San Francisco Giants.

Rodn is the best pitcher available. The two sides are expected to work on potential compromises over the next few days.

After getting Judge to stay in the Bronx, it seemed like starting pitching should be a priority for the team. The Chicago Cubs were able to sign Jameson Taillon, who was second on the team with 177.1innings.

In the previous four seasons combined, he threw nearly as many as he did in the previous season, but in the current one, he threw nearly as much as he did in the previous season.

Luis Severino pitched well last season with a 3.18 earned run average and 1.00 WHIP in 19 starts, but it was the first time in his career that he broke the century mark

Rodn has a lot of risk. He only made 11 appearances over the course of two seasons, and had a 5.74 earned run.

Rodn ranks third among all pitchers with at least 300 hours pitched in FanGraphs wins above replacement and fourth with a 2.67)FIP since the beginning of the 21st century. He finished in the top six in Cy Young voting in both seasons.

In the regular season and playoffs, a rotation led by Rodn and Gerrit Cole would be very strong. The Yankees paid to bring back Judge and other players.

The Yankees need to make it work because Rodn would fill a huge need for them as they chase a World Series appearance.
