A court heard that a Forest fan feared for his life when a United player stamped on him.
George Brinkley said he was attacked by McBurnie after Forest won the Championship play-off semi- final.
He testified at the trial that he was grabbed to the ground.
Mr McBurnie has denied the charge.
The court heard a pitch invasion at Forest's City Ground after the home team qualified for the play-off final.
Mr McBurnie was wearing a protective boot on his leg because he hadn't been playing.
Mr McBurnie stamped on Mr Brinkley while he was on the floor, with a voice off-screen saying that the player had stamped on him.
Mr Jones said that it was clear that that was a deliberate assault.
Mr Brinkley said he had engaged in a banter with Mr McBurnie at half-time as his seat in the Peter Taylor Stand was close to the away bench.
He joined in the pitch invasion and had a lot of excitement, but ended up near the players and staff.
He said he fell to the floor after being put in a headlock by a player he later learned was Rhian Brewster.
He said he felt like he was going to get kicked in.
I have had head injuries in the past and my head is very sensitive.
The assault charge was dropped earlier this year.
After he was helped up, Mr Brinkley tried to locate his phone, but couldn't.
The court heard that he reported the incident to the police in the early hours of 19 May.
He said he didn't take pictures of his injuries, but that he had bruised his leg.
Mr Brinkley was cross-examined by Lisa Judge about a message he sent to Mr McBurnie after the match in which he called the player a "scumbag" and said "Karma will come your way". I want you and your family to die.
Mr Brinkley said he wanted the player to know how the incident had made him feel.
Mr Brinkley said that the exchange in which the supporter said it was all about his pay-out was just a joke.
Ms Judge told him that the fantasy was a result of his desire to get compensation, but Mr Brinkley said he was looking for justice.
The man who headbutted Billy Sharp was sentenced two days later.
"Oli McBurnie isn't in prison because he's got money, he's in prison because he's stupid."
