Three entrepreneurs founded Adar in 2005 to provide streaming IT and IT-as-a-service to small and medium-sized businesses. Nerdio was created by Adar to help other service providers move their customers to the cloud.
Nerdio and Adar will be sold to a private equity firm in January 2020 and Nerdio will be spun off. They made a large contribution to Nerdio's first funding round in February of that year. Nerdio closed a $117 million Series B round that brings the company's total raised to $125 million.
The proceeds will go towards Nerdio's customer acquisition, product R&D and hiring efforts, according to Vladimirskiy. He said the market timing was ideal. Modern technologies that can enable the secure and efficient delivery and management of digital workspace are in high demand.
Nerdio gives customers the ability to deploy, manage and cost-optimize virtual desktops in Microsoft's cloud based system for virtualizing Windows. Vladimirskiy claims that Nerdio can deliver significant cost savings while "non-disruptively" layer on top of existing azure virtual desktop deployment. Nerdio runs in a customer's own subscription for Microsoft's cloud computing platform.
Every deployment or management task can be accomplished in a few clicks with Nerdio. With powerful policy and access management features and RBAC roles, we are providing a safety net for organizations employing the future generation of IT to fully grasp the power and value ofAzure without getting lost in its complexity.
During the Pandemic, businesses began to explore virtual desktop solutions for their workforces as they were affected by the shutdowns. Data shows the dramatic shift. Over 50% of businesses expect to increase their spending on remote desktop software in the next year according to a 2020 poll by TrustRadius.
According to Vladimirskiy, Nerdio experienced a 2,000% increase in annual recurring revenue between February 2020 and this month, and now has more than 5000 customers. Nerdio has more than 1000 channel partners.
Everyone had to find a way to allow their workforce to continue working and to do so securely from their homes during the Pandemic. Both manage service provider and enterprise adoption have been important. Even during times of economic uncertainty, we have been able to maintain capital efficiency.
Nerdio has a relationship with Microsoft. Gavriella Schuster, Microsoft's former head of global channnel partners, is a member of the startup's board of directors.
It also helps that the competition is not as stiff as it could be. According to a survey conducted by eG Innovations and AVD TechFest of 500 organizations, over half of them intend to have a Azure Virtual Desktop installation by the year 2020. According to the survey, small businesses normally wouldn't consider using Virtual Desktops because of cost or other constraints, but that's changing.
In the managed service provider space, we don't see anyone else giving managed service providers the custom capabilities we do. With Nerdio, every deployment or management task in Azure Virtual Desktop can be done in a few clicks and by any level of IT staff.
Nerdio plans to double its team of 100 next year.
