After decades of trying, scientists have reached a milestone in fusion research, running a reaction that created more energy than was put into it. Net energy gain is a symbolic victory for nuclear fusion research.
When atoms are slammed into each other in a fusion reaction, they release energy. fusion energy is meant to get more energy out of the reaction than what is put in. The fusion reaction at NIF generated more energy than the lasers used in the reactor.

Researchers in Houston, Texas say they have developed a way of knowing how someone is feeling by examining brain activity. They say they can cause volunteers with depression to feel better.
Depression is a complex illness because we don't fully understand what goes on in the brain when it happens. By getting a better idea of what is happening in the brains of people with depression, scientists hope they can make the treatment more effective.
