As part of the onslaught of operating system updates released earlier today, Apple published newiOS and iPadOS 15.7.2 updates that bring most of theiOS 16.2 security patches to the previous version of the operating system.

To support newer devices whose owners didn't want to jump toiOS 16 and older devices that weren't able to runiOS 16 were the two purposes of both 15.7 and 15.7. There are a smaller number of devices supported by the iOS 15.7. Ours is emphasized from the security updates page.

Available for: iPhone 6s (all models), iPhone 7 (all models), iPhone SE (1st generation), iPad Pro (all models), iPad Air 2 and later, iPad 5th generation and later, iPad mini 4 and later, and iPod touch (7th generation)

If you own an iPad with iPadOS 15 you can download the 15.7.2 update instead of iPadOS 16. The first version of iPadOS 16 came out a month after the first release of the previous version, so it's possible that the company will support both versions of the device.

Even though older phones are no longer supported by newer iOS versions, Apple will keep them secure for a while even if they don't support newer versions. For nearly three years after the release of iOS 13 in 2015, Apple released security-only updates for the old iPhone 5S and 6 models that could not be upgraded to the new operating system.

Apple doesn't give any hard end-of-support dates for its operating systems. We want to know if the company will give security updates for older devices in the future.
