The development of a new supersonic passenger plane has been a long time coming.
The company said it had signed an agreement with three different companies to develop an engine.
The engine that would power the aircraft is still in its infancy. Florida Turbine Technologies will help develop the engine's design. FTT is one of three firms that Boom has turned to for the engine.
More than three months have passed since Rolls-Royce backed out of a collaboration with Boom on a conceptual study for the program.
Rolls-Royce decided that the commercial aviation supersonic market is not a priority at the moment. The engine supplier will be announced by the end of the year.

The status of the program has been in question since then. Critics were quick to point out that any aircraft designs without an engine were only conceptual at best. The CEO of Boom rejected the comparison that was made to the fraudulent medical testing company founded by Elizabeth Holmes.
By the end of the decade, Boom says it can make supersonic air travel economically and socially sustainable. American Airlines and United Airlines have ordered from the company.
The sonic boom created when traveling faster than sound would limit the plane to slower speeds, similar to the Concorde's limitation. It would not be able to go full speed over land. Because its expected range means a fuel stop would be necessary on flights across the Pacific, the aircraft's advantages would be limited.
The agreement with an engine maker is a major step towards a first build and successful flight.
The best value proposition for our customers would be the development of a supersonic engine for Overture. We can provide our customers with an economically and environmentally sustainable supersonic airplane with the help of the symphony program.
