A letter from Chatterton's attorney to McMahon's representative was obtained by the Journal.

McMahon denied the accusations.

The first female referee in the company, Chatterton, came forward with the rape allegation in 1992, but no charges were brought against McMahon because the statute of limitations had expired.

McMahon was accused of assault at a California resort by another attorney in an email that was reported on by the Journal. McMahon stepped down as the company's chairman and CEO in June after an investigation into an alleged affair he had with a former paralegal.

According to an earlier report in the Wall Street Journal, McMahon hired a paralegal for $100,000, doubled her salary, and gave her $3 million in January to agree not to have an affair with him.

The Journal reported in July that McMahon had agreed to pay $12 million in non-disclosure agreements to four women, including a woman who alleged McMahon forced her into oral sex and later fired her after she refused his sexual advances.

Forbes didn't get a response from McDevitt and the WWE.

McMahon, who took over the company from his father in 1982, had for nearly 40 years been the on-screen and behind the scenes face of professional wrestling, outcompeting major competitors like World Championship Wrestling and Extreme Championship Wrestling. He came under fire in the 1990s and early 2000s for racist and sexist storylines, including using the N-word on camera, and having wrestlers appear in blackface. McMahon's daughter was named interim CEO and chairwoman of the company in June after an investigation from a third party counsel. McMahon and Khan were named co-CEOs in July. After the investigation, Vince McMahon decided to retire from all positions in the company. Triple H, also known as Paul Levesque, was named head of the creative team.
