In a message to CNN, Nike confirmed thatKyrie Irving is no longer a Nike athlete.

Irving and Nike mutually agreed to part ways, according to his agent and stepmother. Riley said they wished Nike the best in their future endeavors.

Irving said that anyone who has spent their hard earned money on anything he has ever released, he considers them family. We need to show how powerful we are.

The latest development is related to the controversy surrounding Irving's recent linking to the antisemitic film Hebrews to Negroes on his social media accounts. The film contains hate and discrimination.

Irving apologized for sharing the film, saying he was sorry to the people he offended. He said he wasn't aware of its contents.

Some have questioned the authenticity of his apology, with an NBC News columnist saying it was "perfunctory and performative." Irving has a responsibility as a public figure to avoid promoting hate and bigotry.

Nike co- founder Phil Knight told CNBC that Irving "stepped over the line" and "made some statements that we just can't abide."
