After cementing his power at home, the Chinese President stepped out onto the world stage to strengthen his relationship with the U.S.

According to a CNBC count of releases on the Chinese Foreign Ministry's English-language website, the Chinese president has met with more than 25 heads of state. The Chinese Communist Party's leadership reorganization in October paved the way for President XI to get a third term in office.

The president of the European Council was in Beijing on Thursday. The first Western leader to do so since the Pandemic was the Chancellor of Germany.

Cunningham said that the U.S. efforts to build overseas coalitions have been aided by the absence of China's leader.

Before the political meeting, Xi traveled to Uzbekstan for a meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization. He met with the presidents of Russia and Turkey.
