One of the top bantamweight fighters in the history of MMA, TJ Dillashaw, has retired from the UFC.
At UFC 280 in October, Dillashaw had a bad left shoulder injury and had to withdraw from his title fight against Aljamain sterling. Over the course of the bout, Dillashaw's shoulder came out of its sockets several times, and he was defeated by a second-round knockout.
He will be out of action for a while after having shoulder surgery. More surgery may be needed due to the severity of the injury. The agent said that Dillashaw would take this time to focus on his family. He is no longer part of the UFC's drug-testing pool run by the USADA.
The UFC's bantamweight title was held by Dillashaw for two years in a row. The California native was stripped of his belt after testing positive for a banned substance.
In July 2021, Dillashaw returned from suspension and beat Sandhagen in a split decision to win the title. After that victory, Dillashaw had knee surgery.
The UFC confirmed that Dillashaw is no longer a fighter.
Michael Wonsover was the first to report the news of Dillashaw's decision.
