Heisman Race 2022: List of Finalists for Coveted Trophy Announced

The USC's, Ohio State's, Georgia's, and TCU's will be going to New York City to accept the trophy in the year 2022.

The consensus has coalesced around a single player as the favorite for the award. This seems to be an open race after a topsy-turvy final few weeks.

With Ohio State's 45-23 loss to Michigan, a game that saw him finish 31 of 48 for 349 yards, two touchdown and two picks, it might have been a fatal blow to his candidacy.

It is rare for a player to finish higher on the ballot after posting worse numbers than the previous year.

In the same number of games, the Ohio State star has 3,340 fewer passing yards, 37 fewer touchdown passes and worse efficiency.

USC fell in the Pac-12 title game and missed out on a College Football Playoff spot, even though Williams was the front-runner.

The sophomore should not be blamed for the loss. The USC defense allowed 533 yards to the Utah offense and he was a bystander as he was hurt.

The outcome underscored Williams' value to the team and how he helped compensate for a suspect defense. He ran for 372 yards and scored 10 times in 13 games.
