According to the Washington Post, Murdoch will be deposed next week in response to a $1.6 billion defamation lawsuit filed against Fox News by a voting systems company.
According to the Post, Murdoch will answer questions via video conference on December 13 and 14.
Murdoch chairs the Fox Corporation, which is the parent company of the Fox News network.
Murdoch was scheduled to answer questions in a deposition on Monday.
According to the lawsuit, the Murdochs "exerted direct control over Fox News' programming decisions," and a judge noted that the arguments show that the Murdochs either knew or should have known that the election was not rigged.
Neither Murdochs are named as defendants.
A Fox Corporation spokesman said the company had nothing more to say.
The cable network's allegedly defamatory statements were blamed for lost profits by the company. Similar lawsuits were filed against conservative news networks One America News and Newsmax, along with MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell and attorneys Sidney Powell and Rudy Giuliani, who worked on Donald Trump's legal team. There was no evidence to back up the conspiracy theory that the machines were rigged to hurt Trump and help Biden. The lawsuit specifically mentions fraud claims from anchors like Sean Hannity, Maria Bartiromo and Lou Dobbs, but noted that defamation came at the direction of top management. Conspiracy theorists focused their fraud claims on a handful of close contests, like in Arizona, Georgia and Michigan, because of the use of voting machines by the company.
Murdoch and his family are worth more than $17 billion. The Wall Street Journal, Fox Sports and other publications are owned by the Murdochs.
Murdoch will be deposed in a lawsuit.
