There are other National League teams who may sign an impact shortstop this winter.
According to Jon Morosi of MLB Network, theCardinals are interested in Dansby Swanson, after it was reported that thePhillies agreed to an 11-year, $300 million deal with a no-trade clause.
The front office could use another position player to land a catcher in a trade if they sign Swanson. He mentioned Sean Murphy of the Oakland A's as a potential target.
The National League Central team will need a backstop after Yadier Molina retires.
The infield includes Paul Goldschmidt and Nolan Arenado.
The free-agent infielder is coming off a season in which he earned his first Gold Glove and All-Star selection. His ability to impact the game in a number of ways was underscored by his ability to slash.279/.329/.450 with 25 home runs, 96RBI and 18 stolen bases all while playing excellent defense.

The Atlanta Braves' Dansby Swanson, who has played for the team his entire career, is likely the fourth-best option in a free agency class that also includes Carlos Correa, Turner and XanderBogaerts.
He is a difference-maker in the field and at the plate, which is what the Cards are looking to take the next step after three straight losses in the Wild Card round.
