How 'devastating' Brazil advanced to the World Cup quarterfinals (1:08)

The key factor in Brazil's victory over South Korea was described by James Olley. There is a time and a place for this.

4:50 PM ET

The last team from Asia out of the World Cup was knocked out by Brazil as they danced and advanced to the quarterfinals with a 4-1 win over South Korea.

The thoughts of South Korea hanging with Brazil faded very quickly. Vinicius Junior scored the first goal of the game.

Six minutes after he scored a penalty, it was on fire. Richarlison and Lucas Paqueta both scored in the first half.

Rapid reaction

1. Neymar and Danilo return to fuel Brazil

Over the past week, there was a shadow over Brazil. The team's chances to advance early in the tournament were not likely to be affected by the loss of him and Danilo. "We'll see how fit he looks after he gets the go-ahead" was the conversation when he got the go-ahead.

He is back. The entire way back.

There was no sign of a player with an injury concern for 80 minutes. In the first half, before Brazil took its foot off the gas, the attention of South Korea was riveted by the presence of the Brazilian star.

One of the most exciting attacking displays of the World Cup so far was made possible by the space created for the rest of Brazil's attacking talent. That, along with the return of Danilo, bode well for Brazil, especially after he helped unbalance South Korea in the middle, which made them vulnerable.

Brazil's half time lead is the second largest in World Cup history, behind only Germany's five goal lead against Brazil.

2. More dancing than defending

Raphina let it slip that Brazil had prepared dances to celebrate their goals. It showed the mentality of where this team was.

They scored a lot and had fun doing it. After a group stage that saw the Brazilians find the back of the net just three times, it didn't seem like there would be any need for more choreography.

Then came the full force of the attack. There was a new dance after every beautifully-taken goal. The 61-year-old coach got involved. The game became a celebration after the outcome was decided. There's a carnival in the desert.

The world was reminded that Brazil played a game when they put on a show of skill and technical ability. Games are meant to be enjoyable.

3. Exit doesn't diminish successful World Cup for South Korea

It was possible that South Korea could have played to their potential in the group stage and still not made it to the knockout round. The tournament will be remembered as a success because they got out of the group.

After seeing some shocking upsets in the group stages, there was false hope that the same could happen against Brazil, but the gulf in talent was obvious just minutes into the game.

There isn't a single player on the South Korean roster that would crack Brazil's starting XI, and when that's the case, there's no need to be critical about the result.

The World Cup could have been better. It's disappointing that he didn't score in any of the four games, he's one of the best attackers in the world. South Korea has participated in every World Cup since 1986 and this was only the third time they made it this far.

It was going to be a tough assignment for Kim Jin-Su, who used to defend in the K-League.

After the match: What the players and managers said

"I am very happy to be back in the field of play, happy to have played well and now being called the Man of the Match is difficult as everyone played very well," said the Brazilian. We are satisfied with our performance. We wanted to win and move on.

How do you feel after an injury? I didn't feel any pain on my ankle, but I thought my performance was good. I'm happy with my performance. I don't think the prize is for me, but for everyone, and I can always improve. The performance of my teammates was very good.

"I only have words of thanks for all the love they sent my way," said the soccer player. I was thinking of a million things when I was injured. I was worried that I wouldn't be able to play in the World Cup again. I looked for strength where I could not find it because I had the support of my family. It was good for me to read the encouragement. I would like to thank the people who sent me messages after I was injured.
