Next month, Microsoft will increase the prices of its first-party games. Redfall, Starfield, and the rest of the games from Microsoft's Game Studios will be priced at $69.99 instead of the usual $59.99 in the years to come. It is a price increase that matches the prices that competitors like Sony and Take-Two offer.

Microsoft commented on the price increases.

We’ve held on price increases until after the holidays so families can enjoy the gift of gaming. Starting in 2023 our new, built for next-gen, full-priced games, including Forza Motorsport, Redfall, and Starfield, will launch at $69.99 USD on all platforms. This price reflects the content, scale, and technical complexity of these titles. As with all games developed by our teams at Xbox, they will also be available with Game Pass the same day they launch.

It isn't surprising that Microsoft's price hike to its own upcoming games isn't new. Two years ago, the current-gen consoles launched, with Sony offering its own PS5 games for less than $60. Microsoft has kept the price of its subscription offerings the same, even though it has focused on offering its own games.

Phil Spencer, CEO of Microsoft gaming, said that price increases could happen after the holidays. We have held the price on our consoles and games. Spencer said in an interview in October that he doesn't think we'll be able to do that forever. I think at some point we will have to raise some prices, but we wanted to keep the prices we have.
