North Carolina has dropped out of the AP men's college basketball poll after a fourth consecutive loss.
The program's first stay at the top since the 1980s was extended after 37 of 62 first-place votes were cast. Houston was the top ranked team in its first week.
The coach didn't dwell on the top ranking. "We don't think we're something we're not."
Fourteen first-place votes went to the Longhorns. There were three votes for Virginia and four forPurdue.
The program's highest ranking since the beginning of the 2012 season was 5. There are three other teams in the AP Top 25 that are also perfect.
It was the Swift Fall.
Since 1961, at least six teams have gone from preseason No. 1 to unranked, the most recent being Michigan State.
Four weeks was the shortest exit from the poll to start the season for the Tar Heels. Only 10 teams were ranked when the Bruins were out of the polls.
The Tar Heels lost their fourth game in a row over the weekend at Virginia Tech while playing without their injured big man. The panel that votes on the AP Top 25 had only one ballot this week.
"I told them that I'm not panicked, I'm not any of that," he said. We are going to be a great basketball team by the end of the season.
In Davis' first season, the Tar Heels were on the NCAA tournament bubble. They lost to Kansas in the NCAA championship game.
The top tier.
The SEC teams in Tennessee, Alabama and Arkansas rounded out the top five. It was the Volunteers' first appearance in the top 10. After a loss at Utah, Arizona fell six places.
It's rising.
The biggest jump of the week was by Maryland, which moved up nine spots after victories against Louisville and Illinois. The program has been in the top 10 for the past two seasons.
Tennessee was next up with a six spot increase.
13 teams rose from last week.
It was slippery.
After losing at Texas and at home to Nebraska last week, Creighton plummeted to 21st.
The Bears bounced back from their loss to the Golden Eagles with a win over the Zags in a repeat of the NCAA title game.
The Zags dropped four spots to their lowest ranked since Christmas Day of last year.
Four teams fell from last week.
There is a status quoi.
After a loss at Duke, Ohio State remained in place.
Welcome to the world.
Mississippi State earned their first AP Top 25 ranking in over a year under first-year coach Chris Jans with the addition of two new teams.
After being ranked 14th and 15th in the first two polls, the Frogs fell out of the rankings for two weeks.
For now, Farewell.
Michigan State and UNC both fell out after losing.
There is a conference watch.
The SEC had six ranked teams. There were five ranked teams in the Big Ten and Big 12.
The West Coast and Mountain West conferences each had one.
