Scott Satterfield has been hired as the next football coach at Cincinnati.
Satterfield got a six-year deal, according to a source.
The hire is compelling due to the fact that the schools are almost 100 miles apart and have competed against each other in the past. The schools will play each other in a bowl game in December.
The hiring of Satterfield is a sign of things to come. Satterfield is the new coach at the school. The program earned interest from the Big 12 after Fickell took it to the College Football Playoff.
The Cincinnati was interested in Satterfield because he did a great job rebuilding Louisville after Bobby Petrino was fired. Satterfield led Louisville to three bowls in the past four seasons and was one of the hottest young coaches in the country.
After five years at Appalachian State, Satterfield went to Louisville and finished with a 25-24 record. One of the appeals of Satterfield's background to the Cincinnati brass was that he was the one who led Appalachian State through its transition to the top tier of college football. The skill set was transferrable.
With Louisville's job open, Jeff Brohm, who was a star quarterback at Louisville and is now the coach at Purdue, is the favorite.
