Louisville's Scott Satterfield will be Cincinnati's next football coach, according to reports.

The six-year deal will be announced later.

Louisville and Cincinnati are going to play in a bowl game. Satterfield may not play for Louisville against his new team.

Satterfield has a 25-24 record at Louisville. They have never finished with more than eight wins.

Satterfield was the head coach at Appalachian State for six years. Fickell took the head-coaching job at Wisconsin and is expected to be replaced by him.

The program has won 57 games over the last six years. The first Group of Five squad to make the College Football Playoff last season was the Bearcats.

The Big 12 is preparing for the departure of Texas and Oklahoma in 2025.

Satterfield's lack of success at Louisville may make it hard for some to understand the decision to hire him. He leaves the program with a worse record than his predecessor, Bobby Petrino, and with the second worst record for a Louisville coach since the turn of the century.

Fickell was one of the most sought-after assistant coaches in the country when he arrived at Cincinnati. The administration valued head-coaching experience in the search and it wouldn't have been a surprise if the school dipped into the assistant ranks for a replacement.
