You can watch the eruption of the largest volcano on the planet.
According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the eruption of Mauna loa began at 11:30 pm on Nov. 27, 2022. The eruption moved towards the Daniel K. Inouye Highway and the US Geological Survey expects it to remain active. It's always good to know that no homes or buildings are at risk.
It is taller than Mount Everest and dominates the Big Island of Hawaii with a total height of over 30,000 feet. The surface area of the mountain is over 5000 square kilometres. It looms over its neighbour. The volcano hasn't erupted in 30 years.
Currently, there is one active fissure that is seeing several lava flows, which have slowed down over the past few days, but this may change over the next few weeks according to the US Geological Survey. The lava flow rate was 40 feet per hour.
You can watch the live stream of the active fissure, where several cameras capture the lava glowing and flowing, and you can see the fissure is issuing volcanic gas.
