AD erupts for 55 points as Lakers win 3rd straight (2:03)

The Lakers defeated the Wizards on the road thanks to Anthony Davis' 55 points and 17 rebound. There is a time and a place.

11:31 PM ET

The Capital One Arena crowd let the visiting Los Angeles Lakers big man hear their displeasure as the ball fell through the hoop in the fourth quarter.

"M- V-P!" It's M-V-P. M- V-P!

Davis, who finished with 55 points, 17 rebound and 3 blocked shots in L.A.'s 130-119 win over the Washington Wizards, isn't just hearing the praise from fans, either.

When you're talking about people in the category of the Most Valuable Player, that probably will change after tonight. Davis should be up there.

The sentiment was echoed by the man who finished with 29 points.

James said that he had been unbelievable. It was on both sides of the floor. I think I'm playing the best in this league. Straight dominance, that's all.

One of the best performances of Davis' career was against the Wizards. It was the second-most points he has ever scored, and the most he has had in a Lakers uniform, as he became the only player with back-to-back games with 40-plus points and 10-plus rebound for the purple and gold.

It had been three decades since a player in the NBA put up a stat line of 50 or more points, 15 or more rebound and three or more blocks while connecting on at least 70% of his shot attempts.

Davis said his sole focus is on team achievement.

Davis said that he wants to win a championship and earn his first Maurice Podoloff trophy. It's all done." The rest will take care of themselves if you are focused on winning a title. I've always thought that way. I don't want the team to get any individual awards. The rest will take care of themselves if we continue to do what we do.

The Lakers have won three in a row and eight of their past 10 games to improve their record to 12th place in the Western Conference.

The Lakers' win was the end of a wonderful stretch for Davis, who finished third in the voting for the NBA's Most Valuable Player last year.

In his past nine games, Davis has averaged 35.3 points on 64.8% from the field, 45.5% from 3, and 81% from the foul line, while also recording 15.6 rebound and 2 blocks per game. When Davis was able to fully recover from the lower back pain that had plagued him in training camp, he was able to improve his production and confidence.

His health is the first thing that comes to mind. His body is feeling great. He's had a few back issues early on, but he's worked his way through them, and you can see it in his play. He is having a good time playing basketball. The men are aware of it. I make him a priority in regards to who we need to play through.

James said it was his responsibility to let Davis know how much he meant to the Lakers.

James thinks we all need to be reminded. We all need to be reminded of why we're here, what our capabilities are, and how much we believe in each other, no matter how good you are.

As a leader of the team, I have to assure AD that he is great in this league, not just for this team, but for this league as well.

The Lakers want to go as far as Davis takes them.

He picked up the torch and ran with it. We're going along for the ride. It's really nice to see.
