Heigl talked about the level of "insanity" that pushed her to leave the show in a conversation with Bevy Smith on Thursday.

If I was able to find a way to work within it, that would have worked for me. I only realized that I was up here at a level of intensity that was not good for me. She said that she fled in a panicked state.

Heigl thinks she made the right decision, but she would have liked to have had more time to think it through.

Sometimes I think I should have just calmed down a bit. Thought it through and had some discussions about it. Is this possible? She asked if she could do just this many episodes a year.

Heigl said that she experienced heightened anxiety while working on the show.

She left "Grey's" because she felt she had no other choice but to.

Heigl said that her mental health was affected during her run.

She said that she was going to get sick and that she got mentally sick.

In 2009, Heigl sat down with David Letterman to talk about poor working conditions on the set of "Grey's"
