On ABC's "This Week," Rep. David Joyce refused to condemn Donald Trump's demand to end the constitution and become president. The bedrock document of American rights and laws was demanded to be thrown out and a new election held after Trump was incensed over new information about the 2020 election. Joyce, chair of the Republican Governance Group, did everything he could to avoid criticism of Trump, and even promised to support him if he becomes the GOP nominee for president. Joyce insisted that Trump needs to be taken incontext and that he says a lot of things. Joyce said he couldn't be chasing every crazy statement and that ending the Constitution was not a reality. A president can use a national emergency to expand his powers. Critics were worried that Trump would do something during the insurrection. “You support a candidate who's come out for suspending the constitution.”“You know, he says a lot of things, you have to take him in context..” “But that's an extraordinary statement. You can't come out against someone who's for suspending the constitution?” pic.twitter.com/v4e0VREBOX

George Stephanopoulos didn't allow Joyce to off the hook. He asked if he could support a presidential candidate who wanted to end the constitution.
Stephanopoulos said it was an extraordinary statement. It is not possible to come out against someone who supports suspending the constitution.
Joyce wouldn't be able to.
Only a few Republicans, including Cheney and Turner, slammed back at Trump.
Turner said on CBS' " Face the Nation" that Trump's demand was not in line with the oath we all take. He disagreed with Trump's statement.
The critics were surprised.
