Brock Purdy took over for Garoppolo against the Dolphins.

Garoppolo took a hard hit to the knee in a Week 12 win over the New Orleans Saints, but he has avoided serious injuries this season.

He told reporters after the game that he was fine. It was a little sore but nothing bad.

He has missed a lot of time in his 49ers career because of injuries.

There were ankle issues that cost the quarterback all but six games in the 2020 campaign. He was limited in his value on the trade market last year because of a shoulder injury.

After the second-year quarterback suffered an ankle injury, the starting job opened up for Garoppolo.
