The Los Angeles Police Department made 18 arrests in a retail theft operation that took place over a two-day period last week.

There were two incidents in theLAPD Southeast Division, one in the Hollenbeck Division and one in the city of Paramount.

A large amount of clothing was taken with an estimated value of $23,000.

18 people were arrested for violating California Penal code 490.4 PC (Organized Retail Theft) and 487 PC (Grand Theft) a felony.

There is a race for reelection.

All the stolen items have been recovered and returned to the shoe and clothing retailers.

According to the Los Angeles Police Department, those same suspects are suspected of being involved in 14 other incidents throughout the City of Los Angeles and Los Angeles County. TheLAPD, LASD, and the clothing retailer's Loss Prevention personnel are working together to investigate the case.

According to the police press release, anyone with information about these or other retail theft incidents should contact their local law enforcement agency.

Robert Luna was sworn in as the new leader of the nation's largest sheriff's department. He will become the 34th Los Angeles County sheriff next week, after winning the election against his opponent.

Luna said in his speech that he would focus on accountability and cooperation with elected officials. The country's most populous county has seen an increase in violent and property crime.
