Russia: Bodies of 2,500 seals found along Caspian Sea coast

The seals were found dead on the coast of Russia.

There is no evidence that they died violently.

Initially 700 dead seals were reported, but further investigation has shown a much higher number.

Since 2008, the Caspian seals have been on the red list.

The seals probably died about two weeks ago, according to Zaur Gapizov.

There is no proof that the animals were killed in fishing nets.

The ministry of natural resources and environment wrote on Telegram that there were a lot of people between the mouths of two rivers.

The ministry said reasons for the deaths would be established when the lab results came back.

Over-hunting and industrial pollution have led to a decline in the seal population of the Caspian Sea.

Around a century ago, the number was more than one million, according to the center.
