Donald Trump was "genuinely remorseful" about the events of that day, with the commander-in-chief inquiring about the wellbeing of his family, according to Mike Pence.
During an interview on "Fox News Sunday," the vice president told host Shannon Bream about his feelings leading up to the January 6 riot, as well as his thoughts on that day and the days after.
Trump was remorseful about what had happened, according to Pence. He immediately inquired about Karen and Charlotte, who were with me all day and night. I told him that they wouldn't leave and that they were fine. He asked me if I was afraid. I said, "No, I was upset."
I was angry about our differences and I was angry at the people who ransacked the Capitol. The former vice president said that he felt remorseful in that moment.
The two men were at odds before January 6 when Trump tried to get his No. 2 to help him overturn Biden's victory and the vice president tried to follow the constitution.
We clashed in the days leading up to January 6. "I will always believe that I did my duty that day, by God's grace, under the Constitution, and upheld the peaceful transfer of power," the Vice President said.
Since leaving the Naval Observatory, Pence has been critical of Trump while praising his administration's conservative agenda.
Trump has already entered the race for the White House, while the former vice president is considering entering.
