The Princess And The Frog will be an updated version of the 30-year-old Splash Mountain theme park ride that Disney decided to completely remake two years ago. A senior vice president at the company said that beautiful zydeco music will fill the air on the ride. It's an animatronic banjo hitting. There will probably be some banjos hitting the ground.
Splash Mountain, which opened in 1992, has long been the subject of controversy due to its connection to Song, which Disney released in 1946, drawing criticism for its depiction of a Reconstruction-era Georgia plantation. Bob Iger, who recently took back control of the company, stated in 2010 that the film was unfairly offensive and that he had no intention of putting it on the company's streaming service, Disney+. Splash Mountain has no reference to the live-action parts of the film in which James Baskett's Uncle Remus tells stories to Bobby Driscoll's Johnny. The characters from those cartoon stories have appeared in more modern projects from the company.
The protests that broke out nation-wide in the aftermath of George Floyd's killing by police led Disney to replace Splash Mountain with the Princess and The Frog version. At its core, it will still be a log flume ride, but now you will be hanging out with the alligator as they prepare for a big carnival party.
The version of Splash Mountain at Florida's Walt Disney World will be the first to close for a redesign. The one in Disneyland is expected to be ready by the end of the year.
