Senate Minority LeaderMitch McConnell of Kentucky was called an election denier by incoming House Democratic leader Hakeem Jeffries.

The New York lawmaker, who will succeed Speaker Nancy Pelosi of California in January in taking over the reins of the House Democratic caucus, said it was unfortunate that McConnell called him out on the Senate floor.

The majority of the world is critical of Trump's presidency, Jeffries told the news outlet.

It didn't seem right to me. He wants to remain focused on fighting for the people.

McConnell, who was once a political ally of Trump before condemning the former president over his conduct on January 6, 2021, blasted Jeffries during a Senate speech in advance of the nativeBrooklynite assuming his new role in the coming weeks

McConnell said that many of the same individuals and institutions on the political left who spent the year yelling about the importance of norms and institutions have themselves not hesitated to undermine our institutions when they are unhappy with a given outcome. He said that the Justices he didn't like had zero legitimacy.

The GOP leader said that the Democrats' new leader wasn't an outlier when it came to attacking the judiciary.

During a Sunday interview on ABC's "This Week" with George Stephanopoulos, Jeffries argued that McConnell didn't reject the certification of the 2016 election because he spoke out against Trump.

Hypocrisy is not a constraint on the behavior of the Republicans. The congressman told Stephanopoulos that many people think that "shameless" is a virtue.

The situation has been clear to me. He said that he supported the certification of the election. Even though there were many people pushing me and others to not go, I went to his inauguration and found ways to work with the Trump administration. The track record is what matters.
