According to reports, Greg Roman is being considered to replace David Shaw as the Cardinal's head football coach.
According to Ian Rapoport, Roman has emerged as the top candidate for the position.
The 50-year-old has been an NFL offensive assistant for nearly a quarter-century after starting his career in 1995. He served as a tight ends and offensive tackles coach under Jim Harbaugh at the college level.
Shaw and Roman followed Harbaugh to San Francisco after Harbaugh took the 49ers head coaching job. Over the course of his career, Roman has worked for the 49ers, Bills, and Ravens.
Lamar Jackson took over as the team's starting quarterback after Roman was promoted to offensive coach. Jackson made two of the last three Pro Bowls under Roman and won an award in his first year.
There has been some criticism of Roman's offensive philosophy, which has led to speculation about his job security after last season, but he would be a good hire for a program in dire need of a change.
Shaw's tenure with the Cardinal ended with back-to-back 3-9 campaigns. With NIL money and the ability of players to transfer more freely, a difficult environment has been created for the Cardinal.
