He is going to Colorado.

Rick George, the athletic director at the University of Colorado, announced that he would be the next football coach.

After Jackson State defeated Southern in the SWAC Championship Game on Saturday, the coach told his players that he was leaving for a new job.

During his address to the team, he said he will "finish what we started" and that he will be with the team through the bowl game.

The move was rumored for most of the week. During a teleconference call with reporters, he said he had been offered the Colorado job.

Other programs contacted him to express their interest, but he wouldn't say who they were.

He made inquiries to both potential members of his on-field staff and support staff at Colorado in order to join him at his new job.

The player was encouraged not to make a decision until Sanders could recruit him to Colorado, according to the report.

Since the beginning of the year, the program has had five head coaches. After starting the year with five wins, Mike MacIntyre lost six in a row. Kurt Roper was the interim head coach for the last game of the season.

Mel Tucker resigned from his position at Colorado to become the head coach at Michigan State. He made it through two full seasons before being fired.

In the last seven games of the year in 2022, Mike Sanford was in charge. This was the worst single-season record in the history of the Buffaloes.

Since 2008, Colorado has only made two bowl appearances Since moving to the conference, it's only played for a title once.

The three-season run at Jackson State University is coming to an end. He joined the program in September 2020 and has led it to a 27-5 record and back-to-back SWAC titles.

The previous record of 11 was set in 2011. The first perfect season in program history is within reach.
