Colorado Buffaloes name Deion Sanders as head coach

The school said in a statement that it had named Deion Sanders as its next head coach.

Jackson State won the SWAC title for the second year in a row. He has gone 27-5 at Jackson State.

Jackson State won the title game with a score of 43-24.

Colorado athletic director Rick George said in a statement that there were a number of highly qualified and impressive candidates interested in becoming the next head football coach at Colorado. I'm certain that Coach Prime will lead our program back to national prominence while leading a team of high quality and high character.

In three years as Colorado's coach, Karl Dorrell's record was 8-15, but he was fired in October after an 0-5 start. The year ended with Mike Sanford going 1-6.

He is a member of both the Pro Football and College Football Hall of Fame. He won two Super Bowls in the National Football League and five Major League Baseball teams.
