Neenah basketball standout Allie Ziebell (1) verbally committed Saturday to play in college at the University of Connecticut. Ziebell led the state in scoring last season at 30.2 points per game.

The University of Connecticut has received a verbal commitment from the player.

The junior guard, who led the state in scoring last season, announced her decision on the social networking site. She was a unanimous first-team all-Fox Valley Association pick. She averaged 30.2 points, 7.9 Rebound, 3.6Steals, and 2 Assists.

She chose to attend the University of Connecticut over a number of other Division I schools.

Ziebell leads the team in scoring (20.5), rebound (9.0) and assists (6.8), and he is also the team's leader in both categories.

Andy Braunel said that Allie is a special player. One of the best work ethics I have ever been a part of. She is always willing to help her teammates. Her game has evolved. She has always been a scorer but her defense has improved. She went from being a kid that we had to be careful with her defense to a player that we now put on the other team's best player.

The points speak to part of her game. She gets nine rebound a game and dishes out seven assists. She's the most complete player I've ever seen.

The University of Connecticut is the top ranked team in the nation. One of the top programs in the nation, the University of Washington, has won an NCAA record 11 national titles and completed a four-peat in the last two years. They had three-peat titles from 2002 to 2004 and back-to-back titles in 2010 and 1995. They were national runners up.

The Fox Valley has some of the best girls basketball teams in the country.

There are 43 of the best girls basketball players in the state.
