Oswald the Lucky Rabbit in Disney's new animated short.

The Walt Disney Company will be celebrating its 100th anniversary next year. Oswald the Lucky Rabbit is one of the oldest and long-forgotten Disney creations.

The short is black and white and features traditional animation. Eric Goldberg said that the short was about the character coming back to film. He said that they wanted to bring Oswald back and that he would return to the movie screen. The first generation of Walt Disney's artists were celebrated in Oswald's animation style.

Oswald first appeared in a short film called "Trolley Troubles" in 1927. Most of the shorts he has in his filmography are from Universal, who got the rights to Disney in 1928. Mickey Mouse was created after Oswald was sold off. Oswald was given his own supporting cast, including surrogate sons, as Universal kept him alive with a series of comics from the 1930's to the 1960's. He was replaced by Walter Lantz and Ben Hardaway.

Oswald was back to Disney by Universal in 2006 in exchange for Al Michaels jumping to NBC Sports. He was going to star in his own show on Disney+, but it was canned. He and Mickey appeared together for the first time in a video game in the short-lived Epic Mickey video game series. It was possible to play as Oswald in the sequel if another player was present.

Maybe we will see more of Oswald in the near future, because Disney loves to show off its intellectual property. It would be odd to release a short for the character 10 months before Disney celebrates their 100th anniversary.

It was reported by Polygon.
