Gabriel Jesus and Alex Telles will not be able to play in the rest of the World Cup because of injuries.

Both of them underwent scans on their knees on Saturday morning.

Brazil's football association said in a statement that it was impossible for them to participate in any further tournaments.

Brazil plays South Korea in the last 16 on Monday.

The CBF said in a statement that Alex Telles and Gabriel Jesus underwent tests on their knees on Saturday morning to confirm the extent of their injuries and the impossibility of recovery in time for the World Cup.

The fate of Jesus and Telles, who are on loan at Sevilla from Manchester United, is unknown.

They are the latest in a line of Brazil players who have picked up injuries at the World Cup.

Alex Sandro had a hip injury earlier in the tournament, while right-back Danilo had an ankle problem.
