Stephanie McMahon: WWE Considering Move Into Boxing

McMahon said that the wrestling promotion is considering getting into boxing.

McMahon revealed her company's new direction during a panel discussion, according to Business Insider. McMahon says boxing is hard for fans to follow. It is difficult to keep track of who is the true champion of a given weight division.

What is the lineal champion? Who is the champion of the World Boxing Council? McMahon said it was like it was all over the place.

McMahon said that boxing is just one of several sports her company may get into next, and that it would need to line up with what the company is capable of. Vince McMahon imposed the same organization on pro wrestling that he did on boxing, according to the 46-year-old executive.

The elder McMahon had the chance to roll up all of those different territories and create one major brand in WWE that is now gone from a regional, territorial content play to a global media franchise.

This could be a good time to reproduce that approach with boxing.

Boxers and MMA pros are stepping into the wrestling ring at a special event. McMahon was talking about something longer term. It's not clear when the World Wrestling Entertainment might make a move.
